Winston Reid story spot on

Back on the 6th of January I brought you news of a whisper I had heard and raised the question of whether Tottenham would go after West Ham United centre-back Winston Reid.

Winston Reid story spot on

Stories are now emerging of just such interest with Sam Allardyce resigned to losing his man on a free transfer at the end of the season. That of course means that the player can negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with another club and don't need West Ham's permission to talk to him.

Arsenal are known to have had discussions and Allardyce has eluded to Reid already having decided to leave, the suggestion being that he has already decided to move to the Emirates. The performance of Younes Kaboul last night once again showed his lack of concentration, he was at fault for a goal after 3 minutes and gave away what looked a certain penalty that wasn't given.

Vlad Chiriches is no longer trusted as a centre-half and spends all his playing time at right-back. Given that he is providing cover there at the moment it is the club captain who Pochettino wants out the door first, that will mean a replacement is required and while Hector Moreno is top of the list Winston Reid would provide Premier League experience to replace Chiriches in the summer.

Tottenham are not interested in paying the £7 million ($10.65m - €9.06m) West Ham are quoting sides now but would rather wait until the summer, pay Reid a £3 million ($4.56m - €3.88m) signing on fee and pay him the £60,000 ($91,246 - €77,628) a week he is asking.
