A summer deal for rising star Felipe Anderson?
3 min read
Tottenham will still be watching a former target, given he is only 21, and with his stock rising a summer deal may be an option worth pursuing.
Tottenham watched Anderson when he was at Santos, as did Real Madrid, AC Milan and Bayern Munich, but despite offers, including one from Tottenham, he moved to Lazio.
On the 31st of January 2013, the transfer to Lazio for £5.86 million ($11.34m - €7.5m) failed due to late arrival of a fax from Brazil to close the deal, similar to the Moutinho situation Tottenham had. It's a clubs way, or in each case the third parties way, of ensuring a deal doesn't go through, given that it is illegal for them to influence a player's destination.
On 25 June, Lazio agreed a £6.25 million ($12.1m - €8m) fee and the Brazilian signed a five-year deal worth €800,000 a year. Santos received 50% of the transfer fee and third part owner Doyen Sports the rest. It appears the third party owner was holding up the transfer continually.
He likes to dribble, cut inside and shoot from distance, something he is good at and suits our style. He is good at playing through balls and the key passes that make a significant contribution to a game. His is a good passer of the ball and in 8 games has put in 3 Man of the Match performances.
As with any youngster there are areas he needs to work on, for the Premier League his defensive contribution would certainly need work as would his desire to hold on to the ball too long, much like another recruit from Italian football, Erik Lamela. He is no target man being weak in the air and lacks the ability to hold the ball up.
His stock is on the rise though and his agent, Stefano Castagna, revealed the Tottenham offer before he signed for Lazio when he spoke to Radio Mana Sport.
Simply because a player has moved to another club doesn't mean Tottenham haven't kept watching him, with today's technology it's an easy thing to do. His performances for Lazio have marked him out as a rising star in the attacking midfield roles, he can play in either of the wider roles or centrally.

This season for Lazio he has scored 5 goals and has 4 assists in 16 Serie A games, totalling 771 minutes playing time, which equates to just 8.56 games. He has scored those 5 goals in his last 5 games, 4 from the right wing and one as a substitute. He has started 3 games on the right, 4 games on the left and 1 centrally.
The 21 year-old has a contract until 2018 but with Financial Fair Play meaning clubs are looking to do a lot more swap deals there are options with Paulinho, Erik Lamela and Roberto Soldado.

"Felipe Anderson is the present and the future of Lazio. "Felipe is now eager and ready to repay the faith [president] Claudio Lotito and [sporting director] Igli Tare placed in him by signing him from Brazil.
"Atletico Madrid, Manchester City, Tottenham and rich Russian and Ukrainian clubs had moved for him too."
