Spurs consider another Argentinian midfielder
Inter Milan star Ricardo Álvarez is thought to be one of Mauricio Pochettino's Tottenham targets.
New boss Mauricio Pochettino has discussed transfer options with Daniel Levy and Franco Baldini. One name believed to be the list Pochettino brought with him from Southampton is Inter Milan attacking midfielder Ricardo Álvarez.
Spurs have their existing list and Pochettino has his list. These will all have been discussed and placed in some sort of order and then positional priorities made, centre-back and left-back. Spurs in the meantime will sound out potential targets all the way down that list so each knows there is potential interest.
Trying to sign players on transfer is not simply a case of try this player and then start again and try that player. Several are dealt with at once, options are looked at, contract length wanted, wages wanted, what they bring to the team and personality having met them, all play a role to some degree or another.
Álvarez is another player rumoured to be on the list, quite how high nobody but a few at Spurs know despite newspaper speculation.
The 26-year-old Argentinian, yes we are being linked with a lot of South Americans aren't we, was a big disappointment when he first arrived in Serie A in Inter Milan in 2011 from Club Atlético Vélez Sarsfield in Argentina.

Criticism of him at the time was that he was slow and shouldn't be played as a wide man. When he was moved into the middle a new player started to emerge, the player they thought they had signed. Everything was not completely rosy though as he was poor against any side that adopted a more physical approach against him.
Since then he has emerged and his strengths are now holding on to the ball, dribbling, playing important passes, his defensive contribution, tackling and taking set-pieces. He likes to dribble and play short passes.
His time was split last season between playing attacking midfield and a more defensive central midfield role which may have contributed to the reports in Italy suggesting he has turned down a new contract at the San Siro.
He scored 4 goals and had 8 assists, being Man of the Match on 7 occasions. He won 29 out of 68 aerial duels so is not the strongest in the air but you don't expect a midfielder to be. He successfully completed 928 out of 1046 passes for a pass success rate of 88.6% and was sent off once. The strongest part of his game is his creativity on the ball.
He is a silky passer who is under contract until 2018 so the £8 million bid Spurs are suggested to be preparing in some quarters looks a little light, it's far more likely to be around £13 million.
It's not a move, given the length of his contract that I think will take place. He is the right age but we tend to source players with a year left as their transfer value is lower, buy loss, sell high, if we are sell a player is the general rule.
