At last, Spurs linked to a centre-back
I have been getting withdrawal symptoms, we haven't been linked with a centre-back for a week! Time to put that right.
OK so who have we been linked with now, Sergio Ramos, Rio Ferdinand, Vincent Kompany, Gerard Piqué? No, Angelo Ogbonna.
Who? Yep that's what I said too.
Angelo Ogbonna. He is the 4th choice centre-back at Juventus that Italian outlet Tuttosport suggest interests Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham. They claim his agent is coming over to the UK this weekend for discussions with at least three Premier League clubs.
Basically that means his agent is on a sales mission and is attempting to meet as many clubs as possible to try to convince them that his player is the next best thing to sliced bread.
When he was at Turin there was speculation about coming to the Premier League and he said the league fascinated him.
Reading an interview from him he sounds very professional, very level headed and you would imagine he is the type of player to try his best every game.
Ogbonna is an Italian international, having chosen them over Nigeria. He is 26 years-old so really needs to be playing each week but he has a contract until 2018 which will push up his price.
He can play left-back so that is a bonus but he only played 12 full Serie A games, 4 of those in the last 6 matches of the season, no doubt to boost his game time statistics in an attempt to keep him happy.
Those 12 games were against sides who finished 10th, 16th, 6th, 19th, 12th, 9th, 16th, 4th, 13th, 19th, 11th and 15th.

He joined Juventus last year from Torino for £10.49 million (€13m) and won 37 out of 53 aerial duels, an important statistic for a Premier League centre-back. He was accurate 754 out of 833 passes for a success rate of 90.5% and had 7 unsuccessful shots. He played left-back once.
He has potential definitely but at 26 you want to be buying a nearly finished article, you don't want to be developing him for 2 years and getting him used to life in the Premier League. The move may be 2 years too late but then of course the Premier League may just suit him.
Vlad Chiriches couldn't adapt, Younes Kaboul hasn't shown his fitness, do we really want to add another risk to our centre-back options? I doubt we'll be seeing him in a Tottenham shirt myself.
