Navas vs Lloris vs De Gea

Former West Ham and England goalkeeper David 'Calamity' James spoke to BT Sport before the Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester United English Premier League game (EPL) over the festive period.

"Navas is better than De Gea. Real Madrid do not need a top goalkeeper. The thing about Schmeichel was that he kept clean sheets. Lloris and De Gea have kept nine Premier League clean sheets in 36 games (18 each) between them this season. I'm a big fan of Lloris. Very bouncy, especially At Christmas."

Fellow BT pundit Owen Hargreaves thought differently thinking Lloris and De Gea have been Tottenham and Manchester United's best players this season.

Let's have a look then at the records of the three keepers, Navas, Lloris and De Gea since the 2012/13 season when Lloris joined Tottenham.

Keylor Navas - Real Madrid
2012/13 - 10 clean sheets in 25 games
2013/14 - 18 clean sheets in 38 games
2014/15 - 2 clean sheets in 6 games
TOTAL - 30 clean sheets in 69 games (43.47%)

Hugo Lloris - Tottenham Hotspur
2012/13 - 11 clean sheets in 33 games
2013/14 - 18 clean sheets in 45 games
2014/15 - 9 clean sheets in 27 games
TOTAL - 38 clean sheets in 105 games (36.19%)

David De Gea - Manchester United
2012/13 - 12 clean sheets in 41 games
2013/14 - 20 clean sheets in 52 games
2014/15 - 7 clean sheets in 29 games
TOTAL - 39 clean sheets in 122 games (31.96%)

Of course these figures don't take account of the defences in front of them, the money the clubs have and therefore the quality of defenders they can buy. It would be pretty difficult to better some of Hugo Lloris's performances for Spurs so how the other two would fare behind Tottenham's leaky defence who knows. The stats would appear to indicate De Gea would struggle to meet Lloris's standards.
