Lloris sees a change at Tottenham

You can brush it under the table and pretend it doesn't exist, thus continuing with a culture of failure or you can accept mentality in sport and have a chance of winning something.

Lloris sees a change at Tottenham

I brought up the subject last season and this season, as the Daily Star report, started with several months of TV pundits heavily criticizing our mentality and character. They were all right, earlier in the season it sucked, it was the mentality of losers.

Emmanuel Adebayor is a prime example of someone with the wrong attitude and Benoit Assou-Ekotto has said he doesn't want a lot of coaching he just wants to go out and do his thing, that's not a winning mentality either. He of course now is in dispute with the club and is running down his contract so he can collect £40,000 a week for virtually nothing.

A winning mentality however, is more than just wanting to win, anyone can want to win, in top level sport that isn't enough. A winning mentality also includes a desire to continually improve, some player demonstrate it, some don't, some get a level, think they have made it and stagnate.

Our one world class player, French international captain Hugo Lloris, has a similar attitude to new signing Federico Fazio. Lloris himself has questioned the mentality of the Spurs squad, especially last season when he suggested we were giving up too easily in games and not giving 100%. Now however, he is seeing a change.

"We didn't play a great game with great football, but we were still in the game because we were fighting a lot, so that's very positive.
"I think we are improving. Defensively, we are stronger than at the beginning of the season.
"We didn't play great football but we showed a lot of character because we were fighting a lot and until the end we were believing that we could get the three points.
"I remember we had some bad games last season and we had the feeling that we gave up a bit."

Spurs are not giving up this season, the players that do are simply not being picked or given peripheral roles and used to rest other players as and when needed. It's then up to those players, do they want to change their attitude and stay or keep it and leave.
