Danny Rose Performance Report

Danny Rose has come on leaps and bound since Mauricio Pochettino took over and it's going to be a struggle for Ben Davies to get into the team, he'll get his chances in the UEFA Europa League on Thursdays at the moment and will have to wait his chance. All the while Rose is putting in decent performances he is not going to be dropped, as he shouldn't be.

That's not to say this was a perfect Rose performance. In the very first minute he was overlapping and all he had to do was roll the ball across the 6 yard box and Nacer Chadli had a tap-in, he didn't and we therefore didn't score. It's vital to make the right choices on the final ball and he made the wrong one.

After 3 minutes when Johnson scores his goal Rose should really do better on the line. He did well to cover, the thought process was right but an attempt to keep the ball out looked very awkward, he should have done better and kept it out.

After 14 minutes he shows a great piece of composure calmly chesting the ball back to the keeper. It looked simple but had he taken it down he would have been closed down quickly and there may not have been a pass on so a simple action but the right one and one that showed awareness.

After 30 minutes he has an easy ball to his left but for some reason plays a cross field ball that goes sailing over the touchline to give Sunderland a throw in.

That was all the negative really, he didn't get caught by balls inside him, he did dive a couple of times but was always getting forward to provide the width and was solid defensively, looking a different player from last season. He needs to be judged on what he is doing now and not on what he did last season, now he is well worth his place in the side.
