Eric Dier Performance Report

Two good performances and two goals before coming back down to earth against Liverpool and an up and down game today.

On the down side he should have rushed out to Johnson as soon as he got the ball after 3 minutes instead of staying off him as that allowed him to get into the box from where he couldn't tackle him. Other mistakes allowed him to score and it a minor error but one that eventually led to a goal. Kyle Walker for instance always rushes out, he needs to add that. Apart from that the only thing was being caught by the ball inside him and seeing red when he wasn't awarded a penalty. he went clattering into a Sunderland player late to earn a booking that was him venting his anger.

On the positive side he is so comfortable on the ball that he continues to look a real find. He gets forward and is composed, picking his moments to cross, taking on defenders like an attacker, causing problems, his interplay with others was excellent, his whole game was good apart from those couple of small blemishes, which as he's only 20 will be ironed out.

Kyle Naughton will have to content himself with Europa League football until Walker gets back and then Dier will be backup central defender and full-back.
