Younes Kaboul Performance Report

Younes Kaboul continues to frustrate although on the surface his performance didn't look too bad, as long as you weren't watching too closely. He did but in an all round better performance than he has but as the commentator pointed out there is always a mistake in him, and that is from an independent observer.

There were good points to his display, particularly at corners where he was a lot more assured about what he was supposed to be doing, no longer turning round in circles and standing looking bewildered.

He had a possible chance to score after 6 minutes but perhaps the ball wouldn't come down quick enough for him and the defender and the keeper got across to block the shot from 6 yards.

Problem areas. After 18 minutes he tackled with the wrong foot and gave away a needless corner to put us under pressure, had he tackled with his right at best they would have had a throw-in.

After 46 minutes he let Connor Wickham easily turn him direct from a goal kick, the attacker simply let the ball past him, turned and Kaboul was out the game and chasing after the Sunderland man, on the plus side he had allowed himself to be turned on the outside and not into the centre of the pitch.

All in all a solid first-half from Kaboul with just the couple of small errors which didn't lead to anything. The second half was again a step up on his previous performances except for the error at the end which cost a goal. It's the little things when your concentration lapses, a mistake occurs, you concede and everyone says how unlucky you were.

The Sunderland second goal was from a dangerous free-kick into the 6 yard box that Kaboul just watched and let go past him. He should be in command and if Lloris isn't dealing with it he should be. I doubt Lloris gave him a shout to clear it, he should have done and Kaboul should have dealt with it. The were others culpable as well, the goal wasn't simply down to Kaboul but he had a part in it by not doing anything.

As I say apart really from those three lapses he had a solid game that was a step upon his performances this season, that may be because of further training and grasping what to do in various situations. He will be doing a lot of video work and like Jan Vertonghen receiving a lot of individual help.

That helps looks as though it is starting to pay off, not there yet but an encouraging performance, just needs to get his concentration back.
