Vlad Chiriches Performance Report

Vlad Vlad Vlad give me a chance to write a decent report. There was some good but too much not so good again. Quite how official statistics only showing him making two tackles in the game is a mystery, he made more than that and it was the strongest part of his game.

After 19 minutes just outside our own box he chips the ball straight to the opposition so they have the ball unmarked, centrally 40 yards from goal, a crazy pass. We shouldn't be giving the ball away so easily in our own half. The statistics will tell you he only passed the ball away 4 times but it's where he passes it away. If they were long balls then it's not the problem it is if they are 30 yards or so from goal.

After 36 minutes he decides he's going to dribble out of our own penalty box. He gets into difficulty and is lucky to win a free-kick. This is his worrying trend he continually picks the wrong options which against better opposition will be crucial and punished.

After 50 minutes Rose was rushing back but Chiriches does well to provide cover, hold up the attacker and wins the ball. He again does well after 61 minutes to win two tackles and knock the ball out for a throw.

After 63 minutes Wickham skins him on the inside far to easily, Chiriches was expecting him to go on the outside but when he cut inside he left Chiriches out the game, fortunately Wickham had his shot was blocked.

After 73 minutes a brief passage of play sums him up. He was caught out, recovered to make a super tackle to win the ball but then he passed it away to Sunderland again. If he could stop passing to the opposition it would make so much difference, at the moment you are just waiting for the next mistake and wondering which one will lead to a goal.

After 75 minutes he puts in a crazy cross with nobody in the box, all he did was give the ball to the opposition when a simple pass to a Spurs player was the order of the day.

After 76 minutes he gives the ball away again when a simple pass was on, he rectifies his error with an excellent tackle.

For their second goal, if you watch it again, he simply stood still and made sure the attacker, who shouldn't have been goal side of him, couldn't get the ball. He moved out the way of the ball which Harry Kane certainly wasn't expecting and the ball bounced off him into the net. Kaboul should have dealt with it but had Chiriches been goal side of his man then he should have been hooking it away.

His tackling was good today, he passing was not, nor was his decision making and at top four level, decision making is crucial. His future until the new year lies in the Europa League and League Cup, there are just too many errors in his game. Those two tournaments will provide at least 7 if not 8 games before Christmas to work on the aspects that let him down yesterday.
