39 clubs watching Club Brugge including Spurs

Plenty has been written about late developing 26-year-old (27 in December) Gent striker Laurent Depoitre and we are continuing to watch every Gent game to assess him.

Fellow Belgian side Club Brugge are popular with scouts. We are constantly at their games but are not the only ones. Some fans seem to think that because we are watching a player and then make a move for them that Daniel levy is to blame if we don't sign them, which is daft. For any of the younger players he has no involvement at all and the recent Club Brugge game demonstrated the competition for players in Europe.

The Belgian side revealed that 10 English and 10 German clubs were watching on Thursday night as they took on Legia Warsaw together with clubs from all the major European leagues.

The complete List

Belgium: Anderlecht, Eupen, Lierse and representatives of the national side.

Germany: Borussia Dortmund, Wolfsburg, Schalke 04, Eintracht Frankfurt, Hoffenheim,

FC Augsburg, Borussia Mönchengladbach, Hamburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Fortuna Dusseldorf

England: Everton, Hull City, Brighton, Norwich City, Bolton Wanderers, Swansea City,

Southampton, QPR, Leicester City and Reading

France: Lille, Olympique Marseille, Reims and Bordeaux.

Italy: Inter Milan, Sampdoria and Atalanta.

Netherlands: AZ Alkmaar, PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord.

Spain: FC Barcelona, Celta Vigo, Real Sociedad, Espanyol and Villarreal.

As you can see there is plenty of competition and any club interested in signing a player will have a word with their representatives to express their interest. They will gain an idea of what the player is after (wages and conditions) and ask whether the player would be interested in joining them. They would get an idea of how much the player would cost from the agent too. Then put an informal proposal forward with a ballpark figure for a salary and if the player is genuinely interested, rather than just keeping his options open, a deal can be discussed and agreed.

The theory is that the club must give permission for any transfer negotiation to take place, in practice that is unworkable, people will always have informal chats and agree proposals in principle before even discussing the matter with a club.
