Spurs and Inter tussling for Vecino

Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb are running an exclusive that reports that Tottenham Hotsour are interested in acquiring the services of Fiorentina midfielder Matías Vecino this summer.

The are claiming that because Manchester United are pressing to get Eric Dier, who isn't for sale, that we are taking the first steps to securing a replacement. A fanciful notion. They suggest we have contacted his agent, Alessandro Lucci to look at the feasibility of Vecino coming to London.

You, like me, have probably never heard of him, so who is he?

Matías Vecino Falero is a right-footed 25-year-old (26 in August) Uruguayan international (he has 13 full international caps scoring 1 goal) who plays as a central midfielder for Italian club Fiorentina. 

A look at where he plays tens to suggest he is more a player in the Mousa Dembélé link role than the Victor Wanyama, Eric Dier defensive midfielder role. he played 25 games in the centre of midfield and just 6 as a defensive midfielder. Five goals and rive assists in 42 appearances (2,867 minutes, equivalent to 31.86 full games) also don't suggest a defensive midfielder.

NOTE: Those appearance stats are from Whoscored, if you look at Transfermarkt he played 3.017 minutes, equivalent to 33.52 full games and he only scored 4 goals with 4 assists. Their figures do not include a Copa America game which Whoscored does. Rather a major discrepancy given they must all be pulled from the same stats. The sites can't even agree on how many assists he had in Serie A so I'd like to know where both websites are getting their data from and which one is trustworthy.

He is sponsored by Nike and has a contract until 2021. Whoscored list him as very weak on concentration, the very skill you need as a defensive midfielder
