Have Spurs renewed interest in Barcelona midfielder?

TRANSFER TALK

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo report that Tottenham might have renewed interest in 23-year-old (24 in July) Barcelona midfielder André Gomes.

The Portuguese international (he has 22 full international caps) joined Barcelona from Valencia on 21 July 2016 for an initial fee of £30.84m (€35m - AUS$51.74m - US$39.07m) plus add-ons and played 2,652 minutes, the equivalent of 29.47 full games across 47 appearances. he played 1,592 minutes, the equivalent of 17.69 full games across 30 appearances, scoring 3 goals and having 2 assists. In the UEFA Champions League he played 465 minutes, the equivalent of 5.17 full games across 8 appearances.

The right-footed, Nike sponsored central midfielder is under contract until 2021 and the press in Spain are speculating that he'll be leaving after only a year with offers being received from Italian champions Juventus, Manchester United and a third club that could either be Spurs or Arsenal.

Catalunya Radio journalist Xavi Campos is suggesting Barcelona have rejected a bid of £30.84m (the same as he cost Barcelona) and that Gomes is not for sale. The offer was given to the club by the players agent, Jorge Mendes and was from a Premier League club.

There was ITK a while ago that Tottenham would not do business with Mendes, so presumably the bid is not from us, which would almost certainly make it Manchester United, as is being peculated everywhere in the British press.
