FA Cup to use video replay trials?

The expected acceptance for trial to take place of various video formats is welcomed around the world with associations clamouring for their leagues to be chosen for trials.

This is not simply an opportunity for a trial, this is big business. the will be media focus on any trial, so any association that has a league taking part will gain greater worldwide exposure which means greater commercial revenue and perhaps greater TV revenue as well due to greater interest in the product.

It is possible that trials would begin later this year so associations are already jockeying for position. All of this means that acceptance for the proposal at the AGM of the International Football Association Board is a virtual certainty. any association wanting to be involved in trials isn't going to vote against them.

It is believed the English association will propose experiments in the FA Cup which will add to the worldwide appeal of the tournament and generate significant media interest surrounding the tournament, as a sponsor you would be delighted at the additional exposure.

Martin Glenn is the chief executive of the Football Association and the move has his full support.

“We are big supporters of the use of technology and we’ll be part of it if it’s appropriate. It’s all about how we embrace technology to make better decisions. It’s all about balancing technology with an attractive consumer product.”

Trials are expected to last 2 years before further discussions and a final decision is made. there is no timeframe, which there ought to be, but decisions are implemented in July so any official introduction would have to be either 2018/19 or 2019/20.
