Spurs want Barcelona striker
There is a story in Spanish sports daily Marca today that Spurs are once again seeking Sandro from Barcelona and have held talks with him.
The transfer ban imposed on Barcelona finishes at the end of the year and sees Barcelona able to include signings (yes they signed players during a transfer ban!) Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal. Barcelona already has a formidable array of forwards and not resting on his laurels coach Luis Enrique was looking to add to their attacking strength.
Top of their shopping list is a player we have watched, 29-year-old Celta Vigo striker Nolito. He, however, has a £13.25-million (18m) release clause that they are not willing to pay. It all rather signals that a first team place is going to be even harder to secure.
Sandro scored a hat-trick in the recent 6-1 Spanish cup (Copa del Rey) win over Villanovense. The 20-year-old (21 next July) Spaniard can play across the front three but is primarily a centre-forward. He has played just 744 minutes of football and those are his only three goals. Although he has made 10 La Liga appearances the Spanish Under-21 international has only played 344 minutes.
He has only played 1 full league game and the final UEFA Champions League game when Barcelona has already qualified plus both legs in the cup against the Segunda B side. Apart from those games everything else has been as a substitute and then he usually has to play left or right of the attacking front three or on the wing if the system is changed.
Sandro certainly futs the profile of player we are after, one who is young, can improve and has the footballing intelligence to be able to play in different systems in different positions.
