Where would Njié play at Tottenham?

Where would Clinton Njié fit a Tottenham? We expect the departures of Emmanuel Adebayor and Roberto Soldado, the latter simply awaiting us to line up his replacement.

That would leave us with just Harry Kane, but out wide we are struggling on the right. Nacer Chadli is hit and miss, he provided goals last season but his defensive contribution contributed to our weakness. When on song you are happy with the contribution he gives but too often he isn't. Over on the right neither Lamela nor Townsend offer any attacking threat, just endeavour, infield running and passing.

While Tottenham have suggested Townsend is not for sale, it has also been reported that he has been offered to clubs, plenty are interested, but not at a price we like. Timo Werner and Saido Berahino would surely be seen as central strikers. While Berahino can play pm either wing he is right footed and if we are playing with inverted wingers then surely we would need a left-footed right winger so he can shoot, otherwise he is easier to defend against, you just push him to the outside.

Njié was left out of the Lyon squad at the weekend and everyone has jumped to the conclusion that a deal with Tottenham must be imminent. Would he be signed as a striker or as a wide attacker? He can play either side but again he is right footed, which in our system suggests the left-hand side, when we need to be strengthening the right. Mousa Dembélé filled in on the right on Saturday, but you don't see his long term future there, he like Lamela and Townsend offers no goal threat.

It was only last season that Clinton Njié broke through at Lyon so you would think the best thing for his development would be to play football every week, is that going to happen at Tottenham? You would think not, fine when the group stages of the UEFA Europa League are being played, there will be regular football, but what then assuming Harry Kane stays fit and is scoring goals.

He has pace, dribbling ability and he tracks back to help the defense, but reports suggest he lacks enough end product. It is said the potential is all there so what can a delve into the statistics tell us? Lyon play a 4-3-1-2 system so he isn't used as a lone striker, which makes providing assists easier. In 30 Ligue 1 games he scored 7 goals with 8 assists. As usual the number of games doesn't tell the whole story as he only played 1,519 league minutes, equivalent to just 16.88 games.

His statistics start to look a little better, so how did he fare as a centre-forward when he started games there? The answer is he scored 6 goals and had 4 assists from 14 starts, 1,309 minutes, the equivalent of just 11.54 games, he only completed 2 games. Breaking down his statistics like that then 6 goals and 4 assists as a starting centre-forward from just 11.54 games looks good. As a substitute he didn't score a single goal but did contribute 5 assists.

Versatile he may be but central looks to be where we would want him.
