Concentrate on the problem

Tottenham really do have a concentration issue, we panicked after we gifted manchester United a goal and went to pieces for a bit, we were cruising against Stoke City and gifted them a goal the yesterday we weren't in front for mores than a minute.

It has nothing to do with ability in the feet and all to do with ability in the head. Just look how we started the game yesterday.

2 mins - Walker under no pressure miscontrolled the ball and it goes for a throw in
3 mins - Chali miss-hits a simple pass to an overlapping Davies in an attacking position under no pressure
5 mins - Two midfielders watch the ball and leave it for each other, Vertonghen has to step in and miscues the ball up in the air in our own box
8 mins & 9 mins - Verts and Davies give away silly free kicks
16 mins - Chadli with an easy ball to Davies opts to play it in the air to Vertonghen who has to hook it away up field
17 mins - Walker makes the wrong decision and shoots from a crazy distance
19 mins - Bad Vertonghen pass under no pressure goes for a Leicester throw
22 mins - We play a slow back pass putting Lloris under undue pressure

It was as if we were lackadaisical, as if it doesn't matter, as if they had the attitude we are better than these there is nothing to worry about. I doubt that is the team thought process, but a player who scored double figure goals last season Nacer Chadli looks as if he doesn't care enough, the result is not important enough, his performance isn't vital. He should feel it is.

Can you imagine Ronaldo in a Spurs shirt, would he be happy with some of the passes made if he were Chadli, would he be happy with his shot in the second half when Walker had superbly played him in from the right hand side? You get the impression with Ronaldo on the pitch that everything matters, everything has to be right or he isn't happy. That is setting standards, others have to meet the standards he demands.

What standards do our players set themselves. You can see in some of them it matters, you can see the commitment, you can see the disappointment if they don't perform a skill as they would hope but for others it's more of an oh well it doesn't matter approach. You don't dwell on a mistake but it should be important to you before hand that you don't make that mistake and that doesn't always seem to be the case.

The mistakes at the start of the game occurred through a lack of concentration and that is criminal at the level we want to be at. There were too many players making too many silly little simple mistakes and the reason they are not concentrating is because they are not individually motivated enough. It's so blatantly obvious it's untrue, but it's not the done thing in football to address it, we don't do all that mumbo jumbo stuff dear boy.

A touch of variety for you, some concentration exercises from 1918, I'm sure we can use some more up to date ones.
