Wingers Spurs have scouted John, Bakkali & Cuenca

Tottenham have bought a centre-back, Kevin Wimmer and are looking for a second, we are trying to sign a defensive midfielder, a more attacking midfielder and are seeking strikers and a wide man.

When I say a wide man I mean a goalscoring inverted winger of course, to replace Aaron Lennon. Benfica winger Ola John is a 23-year-old we scouted last season, although we weren't regular attendees at his games for Benfica, we don't scout extensively in Portugal.

Clubs give to the media list of club officials attending games so although we have watched our name is not on the list each week. We did send a scout to run the rule over him in January when Benfica beat Guimarares 3-0, he scored the second goal. It seems he didn't impress us enough and the media is full of a transfer to Swansea City for £6 million (US$9.16m - AUS$12.03m - €8.25m).

We have been heavily linked with a move for Yevhen Konoplyanka but he wants Adebayor style wages, Ayew won't accept anything less than £60,000 a week (US$91,620 - AUS$120,280 - €82,501) and is thought to want £70,000 (US$106,890 - AUS$140,327 - €96,252), that's the money we pay a goalscorer rather than a wide man. Even Championship winger Bakary Sako, Wolves leading goalscorer last season, is said to want a crazy £80,000 a week (US$122,124 - AUS$160,367 - €110,000).

Finding the right player at the right price who wants the right wages is not as easy as you'd think. We have to keep the wages under control so we don't overstretch ourselves when we build the stadium because that would be disastrous. It is therefore the deals we do now that are crucial for that.

Another we have scouted in 19-year-old PSV winger Zakaria Bakkali, who has been scouted by all the top clubs in Europe. He is the youngest player to score a hat-trick in the Dutch league beating Arjen Robben's old record. Celtic have been trying to sign him but with 13 clubs after his signature he is believed to have chosen Valencia.

"I have deliberately said nothing until now. I currently have 13 offers, but I wanted to go to a country where there was a big league. My choice is 95 per cent confirmed. I will go to a club where I will play - I will sign for a club in one of the biggest leagues in Europe."

Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester United, Stoke City and ourselves have all been linked with attempting to sign him last summer, it's been fairly quiet recently.

Spaniard Isaac Cuenca is another winger we have scouted. He was with Barcelona but his time there was injury hampered. He is 24 and left Barcelona for Deportivo la Coruna for whom he has managed a full season, I say managed because he missed virtually the whole of the 2012/13 season with injuries.

He was a rising star in 2011/12, he made it into the Barcelona side playing UEFA Champions League until injury ruined his dream. rebuilding his career at Deportivo he has not impressed enough it seems to pursue.
