Chadli takes responsibility for WBA defeat

As a fan I'd much rather hear the truth than media PR rubbish. If you are going to put a positive spin on things then fine but be positive, don't be using phrases like try because trying implies the option of failure. If you are being positive failure is not an option.

Chadli takes responsibility for WBA defeat

Nacer Cahdli, who didn't have his best game, was honest in his assessment of the performance and didn't look to blame others. That is a very encouraging sign, taking responsibility is a sign that he wants to be one of the improving players with the right attitude we are looking for.

“We didn’t create enough chances. Our passing was poor today and we didn’t make the right decisions in attack."

'We didn't make the right decisions in attack' is very true, there was little interchanging and we tried to many eye of a needle passes when we had players overlapping. The fact they weren't played in suggest a lack of vision, essential for a top player. That vision needs to be accompanied by a clear head under pressure so the right decision can be made, if you head isn't clear then you see limited options and in the end simply pass the responsibility on to someone else.

You'll see it around the box when one player, usually Eriksen, tries to make something happen whereas others will abdicate responsibility and pass sideways to someone else. That smacks of lacking confidence in your own ability or internally panicking. However if you are playing a sideways pass as a one-two, running into a position where the ball can be passed through the defence then it's creative and clear head thinking.

“With the quality that we have we should score goals but it didn’t happen today. We have to be much better to win games.”

Yes we should, I just hope that because we think we should, we expect it to be easy and take the opposition too lightly. It certainly looked that way against WBA and when you are in the mentality you can't suddenly just switch out of it and thus suddenly improve the team performance. You have to have the right attitude in the first place, we didn't on Sunday but that is unlikely to be the case on Saturday because the players will see Arsenal as a 'big game' and be mentally motivated. It's a major flaw we have at Tottenham that rears it's ugly head again and again.

“We know the rivalry and we know what we are playing for. We know we can change our results on the pitch and hopefully we will win the game. We want to get the three points there.”

We haven't won since 24th August in the Premier League, two defeats and a draw that felt like a defeat thanks to out penchant for not being clinical and not practising it when we have the chance. The front four have got to learn from their mistakes, the lack of interchanging makes us easy to play against, the lack of vision stifles promising opportunities.

Three defeats and one draw will not be good enough, each game is getting more and more important and as fans we have to be able to see some positives, we have to see that something is coming together, we can't simply be shown more eye of a needle stuff that may work one in twenty attempts.
