It's twiddle your thumbs time and invent stories while Tottenham wait to try and piece together chain deals before the summer window shuts in around 3 weeks.
Clubs now are all waiting for the last week when they hope to force lower prices and other players become available because of new arrivals into clubs. All that is taking place at the moment are chats with agents and players about deals in principle if A moves to B and C moves to D.
Memphis Depay is at the moment a non starter, a fat fee for a kid from a second tier league and the comical talk of offering Nacer Chadli to leave the Premier League for a lesser league. Daft paper stories.
Their are three deals we are working on but can only really complete one until we off load players and clubs are waiting for the last days of the transfer window so we lower out asking prices.
Mateo Musacchio is being negotiated and is highly likely to happen. The third part ownership isn't very complicated as their are only three parties and one is his agent, if he doesn't move the agent doesn't get a fee or his cut of the transfer fee.
Many players from South America have complicated economic ownership with sometimes whole groups of family members owning a piece of a player. By comparison this is easy. The only issue is how much Villarreal get out of the deal. Villarreal expect the deal to go through, his agent expects the deal to go through and Tottenham expect the deal to go through.
The £50 million is paper rubbish. Its a release clause that is inserted just in case he turns into a superstar, he hasn't, thus his fee is around £17 million and will remain there. The method of getting round these obstacles is to throw in add-on clauses that make the transfer fee larger, but only actually come into effect if certain targets are achieved, set number of game, trophies won etc.
If we go back to the Roberto Soldado deal last summer Valencia wanted it in two payments and we wouldn't play ball. Three payments with add-on clauses not only spreads the cost but because of his performances has meant that almost certainly no add-on causes have been paid, which reduces his cost to around £22 million.
Hugo Lloris was bought for £8 million plus add-ons, one of which will have been Champions League qualification. Well we didn't make it, we don't have to pay it until we do, if at all depending upon the specific wording of the clause.
Gareth Bale and Luka Modric both had clause that triggered additional payments for trophies won, especially the Champions League. Real Madrid won it, Tottenham collected additional bumper payments on top of the original fees. Tottenham have actually done very well out of Real Madrid, even if payments are spread over 4 years.
The second deal we are working on is American DeAndre Yedlin. He is the Seattle Sounders and USA right-back who caught the eye at the World Cup and put in a similar level of performance against Bayern Munich for the MLS All Stars in their 2-1 win.
The window has shut to loan him back to Seattle so if we sign him we will have to move on Kyle Naughton and at the moment he doesn't want to go to a sinking ship at Southampton or Swansea City.
Eric Dier was a player I have wanted at the club for over a year and DeAndre Yedlin is another exciting prospect I really hope we sign. He has promise on the field and is commercially valuable off it, being an MLS player. Roll on a pre-season tour next year and he'll create tremendous interest and with Brad Friedel as well the Tottenham name will grow.
He has pace, he is not afraid to take people on on the outside, he is direct and he can cross a ball. He could play all domestic cup games, early rounds of the Europa League and occasional games in the Premier League through suspension or injury, unless his performances pressure Walker for a permanent place.
He has areas he needs to work on but at 21 has the time to do so, now is the time to sign him before anyone else does.

Our third and final interest is as everyone knows Morgan Schneiderlin. He is a £15 million player Southampton are demanding £27 million for and trying to hang onto in a desperate and belated attempt
to appease their fans. Nothing will happen until after the first and probably even the second game of the season when Southampton will hope they can quell his anger and or simply force him to stay.
Will he have a Berba sulk, will he go through the motions at 50% for the first two games a la Modric or be professional to at least try to hang on to recognition at international level, even though he is not playing the European football French manager Didier Deschamps has demanded. At the moment it appears to be the former.
For the next two weeks agents will be attempting to secure deals for their clients. Someone like Benoît Assou-Ekotto has a year left of his contract and has 2 young left-backs ahead of him in the transfer window. Unless Spurs can sell him, and there hasn't even been a whisper this window, he will have to be shuffled out on loan.
That will no doubt mean we have to part pay his wages but with no squad places available, assuming we get purchases, we can't even list him in the Premier League squad. No business wants an asset (player) that they can't use but have to pay for.
A problem from what I can remember last summer was that he failed two medicals in France and we couldn't sell him, thus in the end we had to loan him to Championship side QPR.
