Transfer Talk - Doubt there will be any decision on Zielinski until late August

TRANSFER TALK

I An Naples are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur and Premier League rivals Liverpool are chasing midfielder Piotr Zielinski.

Spurs finished second this season and can offer automatic UEFA Champions League football, Liverpool finished fourth and have to go into the play-off round and win that before they can be guaranteed to offer group stage football. That small difference affected our transfer business when we were in the same position, players didn't want to commit themselves before they were sure we had guaranteed football and the same thing may happen to Liverpool, although the fact they can offer higher wages than we were able to offer back then may make a difference.

I an Naples are reporting a story from another Italian newspaper Il Mattino suggesting both Spurs and Liverpool are going to offer around £26.37 million (€30m - AUS$44.2m - US$33.57m) for the 23-year-old (24 next May) Napoli midfielder. It should be noted that Napoli finished third in Serie A and are also in the UEFA Champions League Play-off Round so that may delay any departure, or indeed decide whether he stays or leaves. The 2nd-leg is on 22 or 23 August. Any failure to qualify might put financial pressure on Napoli to sell.

The paper suggests Napoli will reject offers with the Polish international having a £61.49 million (€70m - AUS$103.14m - US$78.31m) release clause.
