Has Spurs target found his old scoring touch again?
The transfer window is full of strange stories and there are several surrounding one player at the moment, Brazilian striker Alexandre Pato.
The Sunday Telegraph report Alexandre Pato has been offered to Chelsea for around £11-million (€15m) and Daily Telegraph suggest as Manchester United desperately need a striker Pato could be the answer, apparently he has been offered to them as well. Then there is the news that Tottenham have contacted his agent about joining us at White Hart Lane, we have been linked with him on and off this window, while Everton are also reported to be considering a move.
Why are these strange stories, the 25-year-old Brazilian (26 in September) was a big hit when he first went to AC Milan so he has a scoring pedigree even if it has been dampened by injury problems and a failure to recapture any consistent form.
They are strange because earlier this window he was offered to what was termed in the media mid range clubs with Crystal Palace and Stoke City being two mentioned. He wasn't offered to top six clubs, now with the window closing in 8 days suddenly he is looking up a financial level of club.
He has picked up plenty of trophies and can play as a wide attacker as well as being back up to Harry Kane Pato has 10 goals in 28 games for Brazil and is now back at Corinthians after a loan spell as Sao Paulo for whom he scored 8 goals in 17 league games and 13 goals in 31 games overall. Minutes wise he played 13.81 league games and 22.95 full games overall. He scored a goal every 155.36 minutes and a goal every 160 minutes overall.
He scored 51 goals (16 assists) in 117 Serie A games, 60 goals in 153 games (18 assists) in all, while back in Brazil at Sao Paulo he has scored 17 goals (7 assists) in 46 games and 22 goals (9 assists) in 60 games overall. His career total is 122 goals from 313 club appearances, not all full appearances of course.
Since July 9 he has scored 6 goals in 7 games, 2 of them as a centre-forward and 4 goals from 3 games from the left. Perhaps he is starting to find his touch again because you had to wonder how much injuries had taken out of him, transfermarkt list them as follows:
We do need some experience, it's OK having youth to develop but they need the guiding figures around them to help them through situations they have not encountered. Just look at us when we concede, the team is crying out for a steadying influence at those times, a player who can exude a calmness that rubs off on others.
I'm not saying that is Pato, if memory serves he is a bit of a hot head, which can be the sign of a winner if it is channeled in the right places, but the like of Carroll, Alli, Mason, indeed most of the squad could surely benefit from the experience of someone used to winning things.
My thanks to Wikipedia for his honours list.
