Saints consider legal action over Alderweireld

Journalist Simon Peach has tweeted that there are plenty of suggestions Southampton were trying to force Toby Alderweireld to stay at Southampton.

Lots of suggestions would be keeping Alderweireld against the player's will. "The player likes to stay," Koeman said on Monday

Southampton are considering taking legal action against Atletico Madrid if they sell Toby Alderweireld to anyone but them. Southampton had a clause in his loan agreement to allow them to buy him but also written in was a clause allowing Atletico to pay a £1.5 million (US$2.33m - AUS$3.11m - €2.12m) fee to cancel it.

Southampton are claiming that they did not cancel it in time and thus it stands and they should be able to sign him for the lower agreed fee of £7.09 million (US$10.99m - AUS$14.68m - €10m) at today's rates.

Terms have been agreed with the player and a fee with Atletico of £11.29 million (US$17.60m - AUS$23.50m - €16m ) but nothing has been signed for legal reasons, the lawyers have got to do their stuff, no Tottenham transfer is ever easy is it!
