The French don't like Spurs

French newspaper L'Equipe seem to have a problem with Tottenham and have done ever since Hugo Lloris chose to join us.

They couldn't believe that a professional footballer should actually have to fight for a starting slot, but then again that doesn't happen very much in French football. Etienne Capoue, after signing in the summer of 2013, only took until the following January to start complaining that he wasn't an automatic choice. He moaned that he too had to fight for his place saying he had never had to experience this in his life, the English didn't understand foreigners.

Such an attitude made him unwelcome and did him no favours. He then refused a move to WBA in the summer after extensive talks, money the issue, so much for wanting to play football.

This summer we have L'Equipe invent a buyout clause they claimed Hugo Lloris had in his contract, presumably because this is commonplace in European football, apart from England. Lloris had to put them straight on that one when asked and now they invent a verbal agreement with Daniel Levy that he can leave for £17.76 million (US$26.30m - AUS$27.93m - €25m). Anyone who knows anything about Daniel Levy will tell you he is not that stupid.

Hugo Lloris talks directly to Levy, just as he talks to the chairman at any club he is at, he likes to know the people and get news from the top. He is informed of any offers that come in, that is as far as it goes. If L'Equipe think Lloris has a verbal agreement to leave I suggest they go and talk to Luka Modrić or Gareth Bale about it.

Just as the first false claim was denied so has this fresh fake claim has been denied by Spurs as well. It is pretty clear the French press are adopting the tactics of Real Madrid led Spanish press when that club wishes to buy someone. Keep printing loads of made up stories to try and destabilise the club, player bond until there is almost a resignation the said player will leave.

In many quarters Hugo Lloris is not the number one target for Manchester United but just one of a number of targets, they have already spoken to Atletico Madrid about their keeper and the latest news is Ajax have agreed to sell 26-year-old Jasper Cillessen. That isn't as great as it sounds as the Dutch side will only do so if Manchester United meet their asking price of £17.76 million (US$27.93m - AUS$36.11m - €25m). Slightly different than a simple yes we will sell.
