Will the Rabiot saga end soon?

The situation regarding the loan move of Adrien Rabiot to Tottenham has been clear for some time. The highly sought after PSG defensive midfielder has been bitterly disappointed with his game time at PSG and their refusal to grant him a pay rise.

Will the Rabiot saga end soon?

He and his mother, who is his agent, made it public that he wanted to leave and would do so at the end of his contract in the summer. Laurent Blanc, the PSG manager, responded by dropping him from the first-team squad and informed them that he would remain with the reserves all season.

Eventually at the end of October he signed a new contract and it was believed at the time that he only signed a contract extension to secure PSG a transfer fee for their academy product. He was immediately brought back into the first-team fold.

All the top clubs in Europe have been chasing him but news emerged that Tottenham had agreed a deal in principle, nothing can actually be signed until the transfer window is open, with PSG, the player and his agent for a move to the London club. This was to be a loan deal until the end of the season with  the option of another loan deal or a purchase option.

Reports then emerged, and were reported elsewhere, that PSG had pulled out of the deal which is not the case, they are trying to, using the fact that he now has a contract with them to stop him leaving, amid stories that manager Laurent Blanc wouldn't be at the club next season. He has come out and said he doesn't want Rabiot to leave, however he doesn't seem to want to give him any football either. It wasn't something I blindly reported as reading the situation it was clear that the player wants out of PSG who are trying to keep him against his will.

This season he has played just 470 minutes of football and 180 minutes of those were in the two domestic cups. He has had just 74 minutes in the UEFA Champions League against Ajax in the penultimate game. The last 6 Ligue 1 games, he wasn't in the matchday squads prior to this, have seen 74 minutes, 26 minutes, unused sub, 90 minutes, not in squad and 26 minutes of playing time.

Le Parisien report that he has a clause in his contract specifically allowing him a loan move this window, a move Laurent Blanc is trying to refuse him. It was inserted for a reason, not in case a good offer came in but because he wants to leave and play football. The paper say 'The midfielder of 19 years wants absolutely to leave the capital as soon as possible to join Tottenham in London on loan until the end of the season.'

They go on to say that Mauricio Pochettino wanted to play Rabiot against Crystal Palace at the weekend although it's questionable how accurate that is given that Pochettino allows new signings to bed themselves into his playing style before introducing them into the Premier League. The paper go on to say that PSG are dragging their heels and stalling the move.

What all comes out of this is that Rabiot has a goal to become a major player and he sees a move to Tottenham as a way of advancing that. While some may suggest he has an attitude problem I would suggest he has a winning mentality, a single mindedness to want to continually improve, exactly the type pf player we should welcome. He is not out drink driving at 3am in the morning doing 120mph (177kph) on a motorway, he wants to play and improve his football.

The move looks inevitable, the question is how long will PSG stall it for.
