Spurs chase former Real Madrid midfielder

Tottenham are looking to strengthen the midfield with an experienced former Real Madrid, Arsenal and Chelsea player available on a free transfer.

The midfield of Tottenham is lightweight. Etienne Capoue is not naturally a defensive midfielder and is too slow in possession, Ryan Mason moves the ball quicker and is learning but lacks physicality. Erik Lamela is being carried, Christian Eriksen only produces when things are going well and Nacer Chadli is inconsistent from one game to the next.

Paulinho has given up, Benjamin Stambouli hasn't has a look in in the Premier League yet, Nabil Bentaleb is very young and needs to improve his passing and strength. Mouse Dembele brings strength, but slows everything down with his dribbling and creates very little.

There are serious issues i midfield to deal with and part of the answer is deemed to be 29-year-old Lassana Diarra who ran down his contract with Lokomotiv Moscow and is without a club. We can not add him to the Premier League squad until January though

During the summer he passed a medical with QPR but for some reason the deal didn't go through and French newspaper L'Equipe now report Spurs are in discussions with him.
