The cost clubs want to charge for players demonstrate why clubs look abroad for cheaper options. Premier League clubs sell players at inflated fees, the money for Luke Shaw was just crazy, a better foreign defender cost half as much.

Tottenham will offer 27 year-old Belgium defender Jan Vertonghen a new five-year contract, including a hefty pay rise from his current £45,000-per-week deal papers report. Negotiations with his representatives started before the World Cup when he expressed his willingness to stay. Barcelona still retain an interest as one of their back-up options.
Inter Milan are set to step up their interest in Roberto Soldado and could make a £15m move for the Tottenham striker. Latest news is that Soldado is happy at Spurs after his troubles and the club are not looking to sell him. We do have bids in for strikers and it's a question of wait and see what develops, if anything.
Liverpool have agreed a fee and personal terms for 19 year-old Belgium striker Divock Origi but face competition from Spurs. Liverpool want to loan him back to Lille and head coach Rene Girard has insisted the striker will play for the Ligue 1 side next season.
Any deal is being held up because Origi doesn't want to stay at Lille so while Liverpool remain favourites, Spurs offer of joining the first team squad appeals.
