Cristian Ceballos catches the eye
Cristian Ceballos caught a few eyes with his energy so fans can expect to see more of him on the USA & Canada pre-season tour.
Born in Barcelona and came through their youth system from 2004 until 2011 when he was released. It's thought their may have been an attitude problem which is surprising given he was always considered to be a hard worker.
He explained to Barça TV after a reserve game against Girona that he always gives his best, which is what we saw against Seattle.
He had a trial with Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal were both after him but Spurs were the ones who signed him after a trial in 2011. Former Head of Football Development, Tim Sherwood, felt at the time he had the potential to develop into a first team player.
Ceballos has played Tottenham Under 18, Under 21 and was on the subs bench against Everton in April 2013 prior to him coming on against Seattle Sounders yesterday. The Spaniard also went on loan to newly promoted Arouca in the Portuguese league last season featuring in 24 games and scoring a couple of goals. In 7 of those games he played the full 90 minutes.

He is a naturally left-footed wide player, who can play central or as an attacker with an an eye for goal he has demonstrated at youth level. His work ethic should suit Mauricio Pochettino's high energy high pressing style so he may well benefit from having the Argentinian in charge at White Hart Lane.
Last season was a learning curve for the 21 year-old and it was a sensible move by the club sending him to a country adjacent to his own with a similar style of football.
Ceballos is highly regarded and it was felt could be quite a signing if he developed in the manner it was hoped. So far everything seems good. Barcelona taught him vision, to know where he teammates are, to pick a pass and play the ball into space. Those attributes, especially vision, are what separates players of similar ability and make a difference to a side.
Clearly there is potential there and he isn't the finished article but it will be good to see him on grass and see him get some more game time against Toronto FC.

"I always give my best in games and want to perform for one hundred percent of the minutes that I play".

"Cristian trained hard and showed some real quality when he originally spent time here towards the end of last season and was even involved in some of the first team training.
"There was other interest in him too. He needs to be patient and if he can fulfil his potential we believe he can play at the top level".
