Radamel Falcao turns down Tottenham

Spanish sports newspaper AS are claiming that Colombian hit man Falcao, who has missed the World Cup in Brazil through injury, has been approached by Spurs but wants a move to Real Madrid.

Falcao earns high tax free wages playing for Monaco but playing in front a capacity 18,523 in the Stade Louis II stadium he has realised was the wrong move to make.

Monaco however would want to recoup most, if not all, the £47.96 million (60m) it is thought they paid for him from Atlético Madrid only last summer. His wages are said to be £14.55 million (€18.2m) which is £269,000 a week.

Tottenham would have need the help of their sponsors to afford those wages in the way Arsenal are receiving help from theirs in the pursuit of Mario Balotelli. Their has bee a suggestion that sponsors would assist in a deal but to the level Falcao would probably require is highly doubtful.

The 27 year-old 1.77 m (5 ft 10 in) striker netted 9in 17 Ligue 1 games before his season was ended by knee injury in January.

He started his career at River Plate where he scored 34 goals in 90 games before securing a move to Porto where he netted 1 goals in 51 games. Atlético Madrid bought him where he knocked in 52 goals in 68 games before his move to France. He has scored 20 goals in 51 games for Colombia.

Clearly a prolific striker but it would be an unlikely move to Tottenham, as would Mario Balotelli whose agent is meeting Arsene Wenger this weekend.
