Steffen Freund Director of Player Development?

What does the future hold for Steffen Freund at White Hart Lane?

He was brought in to work under Andre Villas-Boas as his Assistant Head Coach having impressed as German Under 17 coach taking them to runners-up at the UEFA European U-17 Football Championship in 2011 and a third place at the World Cup in Mexico.

Will Freund become Director of Player Development?

As a former Spurs player he endeared himself to the fans once again with the passion he showed on the sidelines. But then came a bust-up with Head Coach Andre Villas-Boas over the defeat to Arsenal.

Since then, whilst still at Spurs it seems to have been all down hill for him. AVB banished him from the front bench and had him sit with the substitutes behind, he seemed to have become the guy who takes all the notes for each game.

Then AVB is sacked and after a short period Tim Sherwood is handed the role with one eye on the summer. Les Ferdinand appears to be Sherwood's number 2 so quite where does that leave Steffen Freund?

What is his role now? Simply a junior coach?

You have to wonder why then he is still at the club and whether he has a future there. Does Daniel Levy like him, has Daniel Levy spoken to and lined up Louis Van Gaal with Tim Sherwood to become his assistant.

If that is the case what then for Steffen Freund? Could it be that the role left vacant by Sherwood directing youth development is a role Daniel Levy has ear marked for Freund in the summer? Why else would he still be at the club, why was he not released when Tim's entourage took over?

The summer will almost certainly see changes at White Hart Lane, what will happen to Les Ferdinand with Van Gaal and Sherwood running the show? So many questions, so many imponderables, there must be a reason the German is still here.

Could he be our new Director of Player Development this summer?
