Slow return for Lamela

TOTTENHAM TALK

Vienna based Laola1, an Austrian online sports news portal, report that Tottenham Hotspur sent scouts to watch Austria take on Georgia in last night’s 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifier. The game ended 1-1 with Georgia raking an early lead and Austria equalising a couple of minutes before half-time.
We were not alone, Laola1 report that Arsenal, Italian side Inter Milan, plus German clubs Eintracht Frankfurt, Hannover, Stuttgart and Wolfsburg  sent scouts too.

Tottenham legend and 1978 World Cup winner with Argentina in his home country Ricky Villa, who then shocked world football by joining Spurs together with fellow World Cup winner Ossie Ardiles, scorer of that goal in the 100th FA Cup Final in a 2-1 replay win against Manchester City, has spoken to AM950 radio and voiced his concern over fellow Argentinian Erik Lamela ever playing again.

That has been countered by Spurs who have revealed he is back training outside and could be ready in a few weeks to resume full training, After hip operations in April and May, he is going to need some time to get fully fit and then match fit. His date was given as October, but he isn't going to be ready t play until November I wouldn't have thought.

“Unfortunately, Erik Lamela was operated on the hip. There is concern to know if he will play again. In England they are worried about him, but, because of how the medicine is today, hopefully he can return.”

The 25-year-old (26 next March) can not be rushed back. Remember former centre-back Younès Kaboul, he who thought Pochettino's tactics wouldn't work and argued against them), he kept breaking down again after his long-term injury. The problem Lamela has to avoid is partly a mental one. When you have an injury in a foot say, you tend to favour the other foot to protect it. That puts a greater strain on that foot and an injury occurs.

Having had both hips operated on, he has to avoid favouring one over the other and that will depend upon how they recover and how he feels within himself. It is natural for your brain to protect your injury. He will, therefore, have to be eased back in and his recovery after games monitored. That all takes time.
