Spurs, Man Utd, Milan eyeing Barcelona midfielder Gomes

TRANSFER TALK

Barcelona are said by Spanish newspaper Marca, to be willing to let 24-year-old (25 next July) Portuguese international (he has 25 full international caps) André Gomes leave with Tottenham Hotspur reported as a possible destination for the central midfielder (118 games, 13 goals, 15 assists).

Recent reports have Mousa Dembele saying he will never again be 100% and we regularly see him substituted for Harry Winks as Mauricio Pochettino manages his game time carefully.

That has led to speculation that Pochettino is seeking a long-term replacement for him and Gomes would fit that bill. he can also play as a defensive midfielder (21 games, 1 goal, 0 assists) or as an inverted left winger (11 games, 1 goal, 0 assists). He has also played as a right-back (3 games, 0 goals, 1 assist), right midfielder (1 game, 2 goals, 0 assists) and as an attacking midfielder (1 game, 0 goals, 0 assists).

Rakitic, Iniesta, Sergio Busquets, André Gomes, Denis Suárez, Sergi Roberto, Arda Turan, Rafinha, Aleñá, Samper and the possible arrival of Coutinho would suggest the Spaniards are overstocked with midfield players.

As it stands Barcelona have received no attractive offers for Arda Turan, which has prompted the suggestions that they are going to be open to offers for André Gomes.

He is under contract until 2021 and Barcelona are said to want to recoup the £31.31 million (€35m - AUS$51.66m - US$41.36m) at today's exchange rates that they paid Valencia for him last summer. For now he undergoes his pre-season medical checks today at Barcelona.

Manchester United and AC Milan are reported to hold an interest too. In all deals Barcelona insist on a buyback clause which we won't entertain, that makes signing a player from them very difficult.
