Champions League centre-back may become available for just £14.78m

TRANSFER TALK

Tottenham have a long-time interest in 23-year-old (24 next January) right-footed Borussia Dortmund defender Matthias Ginter.

The German international (he has 10 full international caps under World Cup winning head coach Joachim Löw) centre-back who fellow Bundesliga side Hoffenheim want to sign. They believe they can get him for £14.78 million (€17m - AUS$25.35m - US$19.14m).

Mauricio Pochettino is looking fr intelligent footballer who, as a centre-back, have an excellent reading of the game. Toby Alderweireld is a prime example of someone who reads the game so well that he doesn't have yt make fouls or pick up suspensions through an accumulation of bookings. Ginter picked up 4 yellow cards in 34 domestic games and 2 in 8 UEFA Champions League games.

He has tactical adaptability, again important for us as we sometimes change systems mid-game, he has the technical ability and is comfortable on the ball at the back. This season he played 35 games as a centre-back, 3 as a defensive midfielder, 3 as a right-back (1 assist) and 1 on the right of midfield. Clearly he has the versatility to play in different positions which will help if we play with three at the back and he plays on the right hand side.

Borussia Dortmund have a new manager and Ginter wants to know where and if he figures in the new managers plans. he was a critic of the old manager although he says he was just the team spokesman. Either way all thetalk is around this rather than any rekindling of interest on our part. Until his situation is known this will not progress forward.
