Building success, the latest news shows Pochettino knows what he is doing

TRANSFER TALK

I'm not sure why everyone is reporting our interest in 24-year-old (35 in May) Dani Alves as a change of policy at Tottenham because it isn't.

Our transfer policy is to buy young and improve their ability and thus their transfer value. It was stated that we would be looking at players under the age of 27 unless they were special. Alves has been one of the best in his position in world football for what seems like an eternity.

Just look at his trophy cabinet, to which a Serie A title will shortly be added:

I think he falls into the category of special with a haul like that and with eight years at one of the top teams in the world, Barcelona, plus 100 Brazilian caps. He recently scored his sixth goal of the season in the Coppa Italia Final against Lazio when he opened the scoring.

The fact that we have initiated discussions looks like we know Kyle Walker is leaving and that Kyle Walker-Peters, although getting more game time next season, isn't ready as full-time cover. A couple of seasons with Alves and Trippier would give him the time to progress under Pochettino, who likes to keep his youngsters with him on the training ground.

Alves gave an interview to the Guarduan in which he stated his desire to one day play in the Premier League. That was before joining Juventus, maybe that dream will now come true.

“It’s special: there’s a corner and it’s like it’s a goal. I’ve always said that playing in England is something I’ve got pending. I don’t know when but I’d like to play there, to experience in person what I see from the sofa. The way the people live football. Wow, it’s incredible. Full stadiums, living every moment.”

The story comes from Yahoo who report we have scheduled meetings at the end of the season. Early days but he would be a significant replacement for Walker and someone both Kieran Trippier and Kyle walker-Peters would benefit from training alongside and learning from, as would all the young members of the squad.

he would bring years of experience of being at clubs where trophies are expected, not wanted. It is the next step on our journey, we have to get a trophy and then build from there so that in time we are a club who expect to win things each season.

Belief comes before success. You become what you think about and we don't yet see ourselves as winners. We have to act as if we are and then it will happen if we totally believe it, that is why we have built world-class training facilities and part of the reason we are building a new stand. We are creating the environment of winners, the trophies will follow.

Dani Alves will bring that to Spurs and add to the environment. He knows what he's doing this Pochettino fella.
