Time for Janssen to step up to the plate

BURNLEY vs SPURS

When you look at the team selected today, it is worth a mention that Kyle Walker played 180 minutes for England, Mousa Dembele played for Belgium on Tuesday and Son Heung-min played for South Korea in midweek and had a lot of travelling to do, indeed in two articles I stressed that he would be tired and in need of rest due to arriving back after other players.

We are fortunate that Vincent Janssen has recovered from his illness so we can rest Son for at least the first half. Hopefully, Janssen scoring a goal from open play recently will lift some of the pressure off his shoulders and Mauricio Pochettino has been true to his word.

He criticised Janssen for not showing enough in training and the Dutchman has taken that on board and stepped up his efforts. Pochettino then told the media after he had come on for the final few minutes in our last game that as a result of the effort he showed in those few minutes and that he is showing on the training ground, that he would now get more opportunity.

That opportunity has arrived and there is no hiding place, no excuses now. Winners don't make excuses, they nake their mark. Harry Winks made an immediate mark, it is time for Janssen to step up to the plate and provide a goal threat, indeed start scoring.

He has looked to me to be making his own chances in a way he wasn't before so there is encouragement to be drawn. A tough place to go and a big game for us after an international break. Where Christian Eriksen had to step up to the plate in the last game, Janssen has to do so today.
