Spurs still watching Barcelona's Munir

TRANSFER TALK

Will Barcelona insisting on a buyback clause prevent Tottenham from signing a player this summer who we tried to sign for buy for £13.01 million (€15m - AUS$20.97m - US$16.13m) last summer?

Mauricio Pochettino tried to sign right-sided attacker Munir last summer but as ever with Real Madrid and Barcelona, a deal proved difficult to do because both clubs insist on 2-year buyback clauses in all transfers so that if a player is a success he can be immediately bought back for a predetermined fee.

There is little point buying a player if you are going to lose him if he does well. That may be fine for a stepping stone club, but we are no longer in that situation so there are not enough advantages for us to do such a deal.

The 21-year-old (22 in September) went on loan to Valencia who can buy him for £10.41 million (€12m - AUS$16.78m - US$12.90m) at the end of the season, however, they are in financial turmoil and can't even afford that amount. His contract at Barcelona runs until 2019.

The Spaniard has only scored 6 goals all season, just 4 in LaLiga with a further 3 assists. From a wide role we would be looking for a better return but he has time on his side to develop.

He is just one of a number of wide attacking players we have been watching, an area where we need some strengthening with Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N'Koudou not coming up to scratch yet.
