Young Spurs goalkeeper is set to leave intensive care

Tottenham Hotspur Under-18 goalkeeper Jonathan de Bie was taken into hospital after damaging his spleen in a clash during the Belgium v France Under-17 international last Wednesday.

The youngster, signed from KV Mechelen as revealed on 8th June here at THBN. The 16-year-old (17 in May) was playing for the Mechelen Under-17's and Under-19's while training with the first team goalkeepers.

He has represented Belgium at Under-15, Under-16, and Under-17 level, currently having 2 caps. He has had one game for our Development side at home against CSKA Moscow in the UEFA Youth League.

De Bie ruptured his spleen while representing Belgium. Amazingly he was involved in a clash but finished the game before he lost consciousness after the game. he was rushed to a French hospital in Saint-Brieuc where the ruptured spleen and internal bleeding were discovered.

He is due to leave intensive care and be transferred to a hospital in Belgium where he will continue his recovery. As a rough guide, a ruptured spleen usually takes between 4 and 6 weeks to recover from and then there is fitness to rebuild.
