Would striker cost £6m or £51m?

TRANSFER TALK

The Guardian report that we are still following 25-year-old (26 next April) Vitoria Guimaraes striker Moussa Marega.

Vitoria Guimaraes, as Vitória Sport Clube are known, are a Portuguese Primeira Liga club and they have taken Marega on loan from rivals Porto for the season. The Malian has scored 10 goals and had 2 assists in 11 league games, attracting our interest and that of Liverpool, Watford, Crystal Palace, Stoke City, Sunderland and Arsenal.

Marega is listed as a striker, but this season he has scored 7 goals in 9 games as an inverted right winger and 3 goals in 3 games as a central striker. Just the sort of versatility that appeals to Mauricio Pochettino.

He will be going to the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in the middle of January, which added to his loan means he isn't a target in January, but we will continue to watch his progress for the rest of the season. Reading the Whoscored website would suggest he still has work to do on holding onto the ball, his passing, his crossing and his discipline.

He doesn't sound like the finished article, yet will be 26 before next season, which suggests to me that the time to but him has passed. If you read some reports Porto are looking for £6m for him, other reports focus on a reported £36m buyout clause (Express), £40m (Sun), £35.5m (L'Equipe), £51m (Caught Offside).

I believe is actual figure is 40m euros, currently £34.09m at today's exchange rates.
