Sissoko will make an impact at Spurs

Back on 7 June before any mention of it I suggested a good player for us to sign would be Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko and low and behold we eventually signed him on Transfer Deadline Day.

Let's be clear, he wasn't Pochettino's first choice, he was one of a number of players we were c;ear;y interested in. During a window you don'y just ignore your potential list, you sound out very agent. Sissoko would have known of our interest and that if we couldn't sign other targets that he could join us.

Every proposed deal he was looking at fell through as nobody would pay £30-million and more for him. As it is we offloaded DeAndre Yedlin to them for £5-million, which is a couple of million more than he is really worth and they still owe us money from buying Andros Townsend.

I'm no accountant so I don't know if it would be in both clubs best interests to write one debt off reducing the transfer fee, and thus instalments, we are thus paying Newcastle or stick with amortisation.

Definition - Amortisation is a routine decrease in value of an intangible asset, or the process of paying off a debt over time through regular payments. again.

In Sissoko we have a player with talent who has been inconsistent in a relegation team who have an unprofessional culture. There are players at Newcastle who do not have a winning mentality, by which they do everything they can to be the best they can be. Instead they prefer being out late according to Newcastle fans and can be seen out after midnight in the city.

Take someone out of that environment and put them into an environment where that isn't tolerated, where positivity is a must, where training each day to improve and impress is a must or you don't play, and we should see more consistent performances out of him. Within our versatile squad he replaces Mason as cover for Mousa Dembele and Dele Alli. He can play the defensive or attacking midfield roles with strength and drive.

I'm looking forward to seeing what Pochttino can do with him, get him motivated like he has motivated Rose. Lamela and Dembele particularly and he could be an exciting addition. He, and our other signings, certainlymean we have a stronger squad now than we did at the beginning of the window. Central misfield has been a real upgrade in terms of strength in depth.

The important point to remember in all transfer dealings is not what did XYZ player do for his previous cub, it is what he can do for you that counts. That is what you are buying and I think Sissoko could play at Dembele's level. He could have more of an impact at Spurs than many fans think.

  3. Newcastle players up late? Ah Yeh Andy Carroll, kieren dyer, Bellamy, what year are you living in mate? Good luck with the goal machine, hopefully he might push for 3 this year
  4. I have to disagree, it seems an inflated figure for a player who while impressing at the Euros hasn't proven to have anything truly outstanding about him. For a backup player he is an exorbitant payout. I'd have preferred the club looking at German talent such as Weigl or Meyer and pursuing them.

    We have got 3 years to enjoy Sissoko and hope Pouch can turn him around. I can only pray that he does. Otherwise what a waste of money.

I am a season ticket holder at St James and have no issue with Spurs (ignoring the ignorant criticisms above - SJP empty??? on non match days perhaps) but I think people discussing if he is good or not are missing the point - bad attitude. Last year he is a BIG reason we went down, watch MOTD and you see lung busting runs but watch all but the last handful of games and you have a player with little or no output (1 goal 8 assists - an attacking contribution in 6/39 game!) he would lose the ball so often and rarely try and win it back, walking back as if limping allowing a ball to pass within a couple of yards of him without effort but up on his heals if we get possession back. Awesome talent as his first game v Chelsea showed but if talent is not willing to try it is worthless. Spurs are in the CL but do not be foolish to think he will consider bigger and brighter things - pimping himself to Real and Arsenal the way he did does not make me think Spurs are his first choice.
