Pochettino phones Paraguay striker Sanabria

TRANSFER TALK

Spanish paper Sport claims that Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has rung  Roma striker Antonio Sanabria to inform him of Tottenham’s interest.

The 20-year-old (21 next March) Paraguayan striker was on loan this season at Sporting Gijon and impressed the scouts watching him. Barcelona are said to have contacted Roma as have Leicester City. Despite scoring 11 goals in 29 La Liga goals he is not in the first team picture at Roma for nxt season.

Sanabria is a product of La Masia, the Barcelona youth academy. Roma snapped him up for £3.84-million (4.93m - US$5.59m - AUS$7.52m) plus £5.45-million (€7m - US$7.94m - AUS$10.68m) bonuses "dependent on the player’s performance and his future value."

His path to the first team was going to be blocked by the wealth of talent the Barcelona have so he turned down a new contract offer in November 2013. Roma bought him and loaned the strong 1.81m (5' 10") striker out to Sassuolo then to Sporting Gijon.

He helped Sporting Gijon avoid relegation on the last day of the season and is at the 2016 Copa America. Roque Santa Cruz was left out of the final Paraguay squad due to injury, Sanabria is now the Paraguay hope to guide them in a difficult group.
