Spurs NOT in for striker Pato

Having revealed yesterday that Tottenham have a first refusal option on Gareth Bale, which the national press have since picked up on, we'll take a look at the news surrounding a player we have been heavily linked with.

Alexandre Pato is jointly owned by Corinthians and himself and he is looking for a move back to Europe where there is more money. Whether he wishes to retain a percentage ownership of himself is unclear, if he does then it rules out any premier League club.

The press have been trying to suggest he will be signing for Chelsea in hours virtually, stories which are wide of the mark, as they so often are. His agent, Gilmar Veloz, was asked by UOL Esporte if a deal was imminent and he replied that there were four clubs chasing his client and he could sign for any one of them.

"The guys are working on getting an offer, but nothing Corinthians are yet to receive one. The January market is very limited. All four have a chance."

What seems to have been forgotten in reports about him is that a fee has to be agreed with Corinthians. The press talking about him signing for Chelsea were all based on his representatives and Chelsea agreeing terms unofficially of course. The reality is clubs do not agree a price with a club before talking to a player, everyone talks to each other and thus, players decide they want to leave. Corinthians want more than most clubs are willing to pay and while our press has been trying to suggest a price has been agreed, Corinthians through the Brazilian press insist no fee has been agreed.

They want him off the books and he doesn't want to play for them, there is bad blood between the two so Corinthians have no problem him seeking a move and talking to interested parties. Most of the stories generated are not because clubs have sought him out but because he has been offered to clubs across Europe and interest has generated from there.

Moussa Dembele remains favourite to sign for Spurs ahead of Berahino and two overseas players.
