Spurs no to Depoitre loan in January

Tottenham and Aston Villa are tracking Gent striker Laurent Depoitre who scored in front of our scout recently after going through a barren spell where he hadn't scored since October. There will be speculation over his future and no doubt suggestions that Spurs could take him on loan, but we have no interest in such a scenario. 

It doesn't benefit Depoitre with the European Championships coming up at the end of the season, it doesn't benefit Gent, who would need a new striker, and it doesn't benefit us as we would till need to purchase a replacement in the summer. Stop gap signings are not on our agenda.

Neither he nor Adrien Rabiot will be entertained as loan signings, we are only interested in permanent deals and then only for the right players at the right price. Our thinking is long-term. We are building for the future and only pieces of the jigsaw that will help that will be sought.

Gent do not want to sell their striker in January and while we would like a striker in January it would be a surprise if he came our way on loan. Changing clubs where he wouldn't be his first choice, it may affect an international career that he has only just started. I doubt he will want to jeopardise a European Championships place, he is guaranteed football where he is. It may well be the only chance he gets to go to a major tournament.
