Spurs still scouting Rabiot

Spurs still scouting Rabiot

Long term target Adrien Rabiot was scouted once again by Spurs on Friday night as PSG went further clear at the top of the table.

The 19-year-old (21 next April) started for the third game in a row as manager Laurent Blanc rested players ahead of the UEFA Champions League tie. Roma are also taking a strong interest in him with reinforcements needed in their midfield as are Juventus, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, West Ham United and the top clubs from Spain.

Rabiot wants to play football, he doesn't want to be sitting on a bench yet it is not a regular starter so his agent Mum keeps casting glances at other clubs to add pressure to PSG. She has been angling for a salary increase for a lack of playing time.

He hasn't played in the three UEFA Champions League games against Malmo, Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid. In Ligue 1 he may have appeared in six games but he has only played 372 minutes. He had 29 minutes against Lille (16th), 80 minutes against Montpellier (17th), both those games being in August while the transfer window was open. Since it has shut he has played 15 minutes in August against Bordeaux (14th), sitting on the bench twice and not being in the squad once, then  one game on the bench before the last three starts lasting 90 minutes against Bastia (15th), 69 minutes against Saint Etienne (4th) and 90 minutes against Rennes (9th).

Of those six league appearances you can see he has played against the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th placed teams in a 20 team league. His only other appearance was 90 minutes on August 1st in the Trophee Des Champions, the French equivalent to the meaningless Charity Shield or whatever name they are calling it these days.

The transfer window is drawing closer and the French media think Veronique, his Mum, will be asking for a transfer again after nearly joining Roma in the summer. I get the distinct impression she would want guarantees about how much playing time he would get which we certainly wouldn't provide. What is in our favour is the we have a young squad, Pochettino has shown that if you are goos enough you will be picked, Dele Alli is only 19 yet has cemented his place on the teamsheet.
