Spurs scouting unknown 20yo winger in France

Tottenham have another player many of us have never heard of on the radar, this time in France where we do plenty of scouting now. It used to be the domain of Arsene Wenger but now all clubs are aware of players across the channel.

The player in our sights is Auxerre winger Nils Bouekou Mahania who was  spotted at the quarter-finals of the 2013/14 Coupe Gambardella. It is a cup tournament organized during the by the French Football Federation and regional leagues. It takes place from October to May in a knockout format for Under-19 sides throughout France. AJ Auxerre won the Cup, defeating the Stade de Reims (2-0) in the final.

That summer the now 20-year-old (21 next September) signed for Auxerre for a year, which was then extended for another year last summer. That contract will be coming to an end next summer and he can discuss potential moves with other clubs in January. He has yet to figure for the first team so one can assume he has potential as yet unfulfilled.

France Football have reported that both Sunderland and Spurs have been scouting him and have already spoken to the player. Last summer our Development Squad played Auxerre, going down 1-0 to a Nils Bouekou chip at the National Under-21 Tournament in France. You can visit the Official Tottenham Hotspur Website for a full match report.
