Youth needs a smaller squad

A manager, or in our case a head coach decides who we buy, that was made clear early in the transfer window and was widely reported. As I wrote in an earlier article on Harry Kane, it is Pochettino who makes the choices over players put to him by Mitchell and his team, it is he who decides the format of the squad and it would be he who determines whether Harry Kane needed a rest at the start of the season or not.

Personally I think he made an error and should have told Levy that he would need a rest and that we had to bring in a striker early in the window, clearly events show he didn't as we were trying to buy, as everyone else does, at the end of the window.

The Evening Standard have reported that Pochettino asked to work with a smaller squad of players which gives him the chance to develop youth players. A bigger squad would mean the likes of Dele Alli having to wait for a chance instead of bring given an outing early. The only way we can develop players is by loaning them out or playing them and if we loan them out they are  not learning our system and are not training to our level of fitness.

We have had Nabil Bentaleb and Dele Alli come through in the last few years which shows that if we give players with talent a chance they will develop faster than the norm. Players like Tom Carroll are still trying to make their mark and Ryan Mason only came through last season.
