Defenders, midfielders, attackers, they are all missing

Defenders, midfielders, attackers, they are all missing

It is easy to be critical after a defeat, but of course, our finishing is an issue I first talked about when we were winning, it wasn't good enough then and it isn't good enough now. When you are winning is the ideal time to improve our finishing.

If we create chances when we are winning, especially if we are winning easily, then they have to be treated as just as important as our first goal. Unfortunately, we have a history of being lackadaisical at the end of games, then expect to just turn on clinical finishing when we need it.

Several players have talked about our finishing, our mentality and so has our head coach Mauricio Pochettino. Toby Alderweireld, a member of the world's number one ranked international side has also come out to suggest we must improve in front of goal.

“We create chances in every game, but our scoring isn’t at our best level so I think that is something we have to improve. It is a matter of form, we have the players who can score goals so it is maybe a little bit down to belief, but I think it will come.”
“I think we started well [against Anderlecht]. We knew we had to start well to be in the game and we did. The only thing we can say about ourselves is that we didn’t score our chances. If we made it 2-0 or 3-0 the game is over, they get to 1-1 and get the belief back. But even then we could be in front before half-time. The second-half was much more difficult they were defensively much better and unfortunately we lost.
“The group is open now we have to get the three points at White Hart Lane against Anderlecht in a couple of weeks. It is one thing about Europe, but we are used to it, we want to get through as quickly as possible but if not we will fight until the last day.”
Without working on mentality the on;y way we are going to cure it is by scoring goals so in which case the cure is the solution and the solution is the cure. Without working on mentality it is down to fingers crossed.
It shouldn't be forgotten that Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Dier have all missed several headers they should have done a lot better with. Our midfielders have missed more than they have put away one-on-one. Erik Lamela was once again through on goal with just the keeper tp beat yet we didn't put the chance away again. Roberto Soldado couldn't score last season. The point is if w keep doing the same thing we will get the same results, we should address the issue in a different way.
