Being the hardest working is just one element of success

Tottenham are the hardest working team in the league, we have out rum our opponents in every single hame.

Our system is based on high-energy, high-pressing, to do that the midfield players have to be supremely fit and cover a lot of ground. Our full-back are extra attackers, they provide us with the width and they are the ones who cross the ball, far more than our wide attackers do.

For the system to work as it did so effectively against Chelsea last season and Manchester City this seaon everyone has to do thie bit. If one cog in the system isn't functioning then it reduces the effectiveness of the system considerably, We saw a similar scenario a couple of season ago against Liverpool at Anfield when Sigurdsson in the middle of midfield wasn't pressing and Aaron Lennon threw his arms out in dispair when he was the only player that was. We were awful that day and the game was simplicity itself for Liverpool. It will be a different story tomorrow.

Being the hardest working is just one element of success

We lost to Manchester United because of a wayward Bentaleb pass otherwise we would have picked up a point and with clinical finishing three points. Since then we have been unbeaten in the Premier League. The statistics would seem to suggest we have adopted the old adage you have to earn the right to play.

Workrate is just one element of the success equation, everything, however small, plays it's part. You don't just aim for excellence from the senior team, it should be expected at every level from playing and non-playing staff. The workrate box is ticked, we now need to tick the clinical box, that is where we let ourselves down frequently.
