Alli and Lamela a lesson for all

Alli and Lamela a lesson for all

Former England and Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp spoke recently about Dele Alli disagreeing with Stuart Pearce and Jamie Carragher by suggesting he deserved his call-up to the international arena. In reality, it was merely to secure him for England rather than leaving the opportunity of losing him to Nigeria open.

"Alli has shown with MK Dons and this season with Tottenham that he is a very, very good player. He's got all the ability, he's pacey and he's a great addition to the squad.
"He's got great pace, he gets around the pitch and it's effortless for him. Some players don't have that energy or ability but he's a genuine box-to-box player. He knew where the goal was at MK Dons, too, and he's already shown that at Tottenham. He will get goals because he gets into the box and dangerous positions.
"On top of all that, he's got a nice touch and he's a good passer, as well. Playing each week in that Tottenham team under Mauricio Pochettino, he'll get better and better."
Alli turned down Liverpool and Newcastle United before signing for Spurs and I would think he is pretty happy he did the way his career has gone since he joined us. At the tender age of 19 you now could not imagine Mauricio Pochettino leaving him out of a squad.

One thing our system lacked last season were midfield runners, we didn't have enough midfielders getting into the box, few seem to run past Harry Redknapp. Dele Alli has changed all that and already scored his debut goal, a goal that should have seen us win at Leicester City.

Erik Lamela has started to get into scoring positions this season as well which has raised his confidence levels further. It takes courage to fail and no success is achieved without failure along the way. Lamela was missing opportunities but was still putting himself in the position to fail again. he has now started succeeding in front of goal.

Dele Alli has had several opportunities recently, again showing his willingness to put himself in the position to fail. The keeper has been saving his efforts, more goals will come though as he doesn't hide. He and Lamela are an example to all young players, hide and you'll struggle, stop hiding and you give yourself the chance of success. You have to have the bottle to face failure to achieve success.
