Squad photo reveals seasons plan

Tottenham have revealed an unusual plan for this season with the release of the new squad photo. Critics suggest the plan may be over reliant on one player.

It does beg the question though are we over reliant on Christian Eriksen? When you stop to think, if he plays well Spurs play well but if he is anonymous, as he often is, then Spurs struggle to create much. Chadli pops up all over the place to get in goal scoring position but on the other side it is all very predictable. Unless Eric Dier got forward and put in one of his superb crosses we didn't appear to create much from that side, although the statistics tell us Lamela created more chances than anyone but Eriksen.

Perhaps a more important statistic than chances created is the time it took each player to create a chance. Mousa Dembélé will have his figures distorted slightly by laying some games in the Ryan Mason role, but still comes out of it quite well.

Christian Eriksen 83 chances created, a chance every 37.73 minutes
Érik Lamela 60 chances created, a chance every 38.33 minutes
Mousa Dembélé 23 chances, a chance every 50.43 minutes
Andros Townsend 13 chances created, a chance every 58.08 minutes
Nacer Chadli 41 chances created, a chance every 58.80 minutes

It should be stressed that these are chances created so that could mean passing to someone who shoots from distance, it isn't necessarily a clear cut chance created inside the box. The statistics tell us that we get goals but little creation from Chadli or no goals but creation from Lamela, when what we need is a combination of the two.

Until we can solve that dilemma then we may be over reliant of Eriksen once again.
