Sanity needs to return to the Berahino situation

People have gone way overboard about Saido Berahino and yet he showed on Saturday when missing the target from inside the 6-yard box that he has a long way yo ho be to a top goalscorer or a top level Premier League player.

He has even conned the Sunday Mirror journalist who has invented a story, jumped upon the regurgitators of news to give it believability in the eyes of some. Tottenham have been confident of signing Berahino for quite a while so that aspect of the story isn't even news, but the invention of a £100,000-a-week salary is plain stupid.

Clinton Njié has just signed a 5-year deal worth £45,000-a-week, so a player on a par with him we are going to pay £100,000-a-week to are we, absolute garbage. Harry Kane doesn't get £100,000-a-week so would have to have parity at least, being a vice-captain he'd need more, as would Hugo Lloris and Jan Vertonghen and all the other proven players,

That total lack of common sense in the article is mind numbing, but there are idiots out there who will fall for it I suppose.

He certainly isn't worth £25-million, Njié, who is no lesser player, was signed for half that fee, again showing how we totally overvalue players in this country. He is on a par with Danny Ings and Ings isn't worth £25-million either, Bolasie isn't worth £25-million, they are just numbers to try and scare people off or to encourage a big offer from one of the top four. Transfermarkt have him rated at £10.5-million.

Cesc Fàbregas cost £30-million, Diego Costa £32-million, Loïc Rémy £8-million, Berahino is no better and is probably going to be no better than Remy, he is never going to be near Costa standard or Aguero so we should be paying a fee that is nearly comparable to heir proven quality. There needs to be some sanity brought back to the fore.

The trouble is fans latch onto those figures as well and then they actually believe a player is worth that, then a buying clubs fans believe the player is some kind of superstar. berahino for instance scored 10 goals in the Premier League that were not from the penalty spot. he won't be taking the penalties at Spurs and we aren't buying a penalty taker anyway, we are supposed to be buying a goalscorer from open play.

Bottom line is 10 goals and 1 assist in 2,924 Premier League minutes, a goal every 292 minutes, Kane scored a goal every 122 minutes. The WBA atriker has potential yes, but unless you can guarantee that potential can be reached then you don't add £15-million for a gamble. He is not going to be a world class striker, he may turn out to be a decent Premier League striker, the Under-21 England side has frequently had players in it who go no further internationally.

Transfers are conducted with the head, not the heart and if fans were to stop and look at what he has actually done and what he does, then we'd have less saying he is worth anywhere near £25-million and we'd certainly have less falling for the £100,000-a-week fantasy.
